Small thing, I’m up late at night and can’t stop thinking of this admittedly awkward, yet funny moment. I was sitting in Spanish class the other day, and my friend and I were talking, waiting for the final bell to ring. There’s four Spanish teachers in my school, but I know two of them pretty well. Sra K, who was my actual Spanish teacher, and Sra L, who had no idea I even existed (until yesterday), but Sra K talks about her so much in class, I HAVE to know of her by now. Sra K is a nice teacher, and I walked up to ask her if I was pronouncing the word beautiful, “hermosa”, correctly. She told me I was, then, as practice, asked me to turn to Sra L and tell her “it’s absolutely beautiful out today!”
But, I misheard Sra K, and said, with such confidence,
“Eres absolutemente hermosa hoy, Sra L”, or “YOU are absolutely beautiful today”
My friend started cackling and choking he laughed so hard, mainly because Sra L isn’t outwardly perceived as attractive by stereotypical society standards, and is one of the older teachers in the school.
And boys will be boys. (Yeah, I’m a girl-)
However, as for Sra L, I’ve never seen a poor woman with a redder face. I think it was the fact that I said it so confidently, and Sra L had no idea how to react…
She didn’t want to tell me I said the wrong thing, so she just stood there until my smile quickly faded and I said “Oh…”
Yeah… can’t stop thinking about that.

  • Your mistake just made someone’s day and boosted their confidence. Keep making mistake (unintentionally) 🙂
