I’m trying to start my own business and my stepdad is constantly making plans for me, telling me what to do, asking if I’ve done whatever is on his mental checklist. He is not nor has he ever been a business owner – he’s a know it all control freak with good intentions who makes me homicidal. He gets upset when I don’t tell him anything but when I do tell him something he takes over. For example: I’m going to look at a unit for lease today, the real estate agent called while he was home so I showed him the listing to shut him up. Woke up to a whole floor plan and list of questions. Last time I viewed a space I hid it from him until the last second so he couldn’t bombard me with questions. After he found out my phone didn’t stop ringing and because I didn’t answer his little feelings got hurt and he acted like an a**.

I’m so pissed that I can’t even go back to sleep. He’s ruining this experience for me. I should be excited but I just dread him being the self appointed chief of everything. My mom won’t tell him to back off because she says he’s just trying to be helpful and it’ll start a fight. She also doesn’t want me to tell him off so I guess he gets to do whatever the f*** he pleases?? I want to break something right now.

  • If you moved out, so he was not constantly in your face, then you could do whatever you wanted without him contributing anything – at all.
If you have a girl friend, or someone you are friendly with, see if you can couch surf for as long as it takes to set up your new business, unhindered by him.
Once everything is signed, sealed and delivered, it will be too late for him to stick his oar in and you can set your new business up as you please.
If you think you have something that works and has business potential, there is always Marcus and The Profit, to consider.
