My grandmother is coming to my wedding, but I don’t want her there. She’s such a toxic person who’s caused nothing but heartache for me, my mother, and several other family members. My mom insists “you have to have her, she’s your grandmother.” I don’t understand why I am required to spend time with toxic people and have them dampen the happiest day of my life just because we are related by blood. Shared DNA does not excuse toxic behavior. Once I’m married, I never want to see her again.
