I have difficulty letting go my mistakes, especially ones from when I was a child. I know that the mistakes I made as a child were because I didn’t know any better (and were likely the result of my terrible childhood), but I cannot let go of my mistakes, regardless of how many years have passed.

  • Logical thinking to the rescue. Ask yourself, do your past mistakes have any real effect on your life now, besides you feeling bad about them? If not, when the thought comes up in your head, ignore it. Feeling guilty over something you’ve already done and that has no effect on your life anymore is completely pointless.

  • It’s hard to forgive yourself for some things. That’s just what you need to do though. The child you were is not the person you are now. Know that now you wouldn’t do those things. Kids are often uncivilized little savages. They get better. So have you. Forgive yourself.
