I haven’t been able to say “I love you too” for years because I’m still in love with someone I haven’t seen for 4 years – Someone who has blocked me out of his life. I have tried everything: being single, rebounds, casual relationships, long-term relationships.. but for some goddamn reason I cannot fall for anyone else – they seem inadequate. Every relationship seems to have a 2 month expiry on it, until I pull the plug because they’re not James. Seriously, how do you detach someone from your life when they’re already gone?

  • Letting go completely may never happen, my first real relashionship ended close to five years ago and I still think about her and smile, which crushes me every time.
But, I have had a few successful relashionships and cassual encounters since then.
Maybe it’s not “James” but the idea you still hold onto from your time with him. Those memories should be charished, not forgotten, but also not hung up on.
Maybe try finding someone who is similar, not necessarily in appearace but quirks or habits. Speech pattern. Hygine. Dress style. Personality. Perhaps it is not “James” at all. But someone who fit your type just right.
