Title IX means that, in the presence of all of my female students and colleagues, each word I write and utter is carefully contrived to cause the least possible offense at all hours of the workday. Any bit of warmth, generosity, or humanity I display is scripted so that I won’t want for the basic necessities of life. This abridgment of the First Amendment results in a tyranny that has brutalized my soul, because betraying any true warmth, generosity, or humanity on my part might be read as “harassment” by others. It has made me a shell of a person, and I will die with many regrets.
