You don’t need to change every time, but you do need to change them. Recommendation is not to leave one in for more than 8 hours, otherwise you risk getting Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). Friend had that and it is very unpleasant and can fuck you up quite badly. I appreciate the financial factor involved, but if it’s such a problem that you’re regularly risking TSS, look into something like a menstrual cup – not tried one myself but they are reusable and apparently as effective as tampons
