The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a study Friday backing up its stricter new mask guidance, one that concluded that people infected with delta variant may “transmit” COVID-19, even if they have been vaccinated. The recent study found that vaccinated subjects had nearly the same amount of virus in their bodies as the unvaccinated, suggesting they were as likely to “transmit” the virus to the “unvaccinated” without having any knowledge themselves that they may even be carrying it.

“High viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with delta can “transmit” the virus, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Friday. “The masking recommendation was updated to ensure the vaccinated public would not unknowingly transmit the virus to others, including their unvaccinated or immunocompromised loved ones.”
