What if life is a way to learn how to be whoever we need to be, in an alternate reality and when we die, we awaken with all of the skills to be in that alternate reality and the life we know now is just a classroom.
Obviously some would not pass the test, by being bad, while a lot would, by being good and there is a place where the bad go and another where the good go, as might well be the case.
