Im deeply in love with my current boyfriend tyler yet my ex still believes we’re dating. He (my ex) has manic depression and has been hospitalized many times for it (something i learned after i started dating him) and im afraid ending it would send him over the edge.

Your confession is difficult though; just because your ex is a depressive, it doesn’t mean he’s deluded. WHY does he think you’re still in a relationship? Did things just fizzle out, but neither of you ever said anything about it being done?
Whether you like it or not, you’ve got to tell him straight, ‘I’m sorry, we’re over’, because you obviously already feel as though he’s not your problem any more. Whatever he goes and does after you break up with him (which, by the way, could simply be to cry over it a lot, not something stupid as your post implies) isn’t your problem. At all. End of.
Also, I’m sure your current boyfriend is understanding of the situation you’re in, but is it really fair on him? To have someone else think his girlfriend is actually theirs?
This is easily fixed. And by whatever degree, it’s a problem that you’ve helped to make and are the centre of. Fix it.
