I served 4 years in the Army and never deployed overseas. I did get hurt while on base fracturing my knee caps. I embellished that story until recently I was telling people I was wounded in the invasion of Iraq. I only did it to sound “cool” but now I hate myself for ever letting it get so blown out of proportion. I told every drinking buddy, friend, and coworker I ever told this lie to the truth today but I still feel six inside. The real hero’s deserve to be looked up to not dooshbags like me. P.S. I never used this lie for personal gain, but if I had let it continue it would have gotten more out of control.
