I have two online personas, one personal and one for practice for having different mindsets for characters and it turns out that my best friend fell in love with this other persona of mine and I played along because they had a very long history of failed relationships and were on the verge of just calling off love all together. I couldn’t keep it up because they wanted to know my persona’s address, age, appearance, voice-
I lied, and even used a voice changer to send them a clip, and gave them my house phone to show that I was ‘real’. It got to the point where they asked my persona out and I hesitantly said yes as that persona and lied about being terminally ill to get out of it. I told them as myself that my other Persona who I faked a friendship with, is living with their family after surviving a surgery because I felt terrible telling them my persona died and I finally told them they broke up with them because their family wanted them to marry an actual woman. My best friend didn’t take it very lightly and I still feel awful. I never meant for it to go this far but they were so happy talking about my persona that they thought was an actual person. I guess you can call it catfishing but I never /wanted/ to catfish them.
